You are here: / / Contact Forms – Data not coming through
Tagged: contact form
I have sent my Author interview form to several authors and am receiving email notifications that the form has been completed, but I’m not getting the information that was submitted. Can you help me?
That doesn’t sound good. Looking at your forms, I can see the problem. The form generator requires each field (e.g. first name) to have two shortcodes. On for each of the following tabs:
1. Form tab – This is where the data is entered by authors on the page
2. Email tab – This is where the data is included in your email
Your email tab doesn’t contain the corresponding shortcodes for each field. Even though the authors completed the forms, their answers were lost in cyberspace. Unfortunately, there is no way to get that data back.
There are two videos that describe how to add forms (below). While the contact form generator’s interface has evolved, which may have confused you, the basic structure of the fields is the same.
Below the second video, you’ll find links to ‘cheat sheets’ to quickly populate your Form and Mail tabs. After saving the form, the Email tab displays the available shortcodes you can add to your Emails.
To show you how this might look in your email tab, I have added the shortcodes for two fields. Please refer to the “Author Interview – New” form to see this.
Please view the videos and let me know if you have any questions.
